I was up at the Marin Headlands shooting the Golden Gate, which is one of the most photographed bridges and landmarks in the world when I envisioned the image of an unusual composition that I had not seen published before and one which would differ from those of countless other photographers. A panoramic facsimile of the entire downtown skyline, the bridge, the city, and the bay leading out into the ocean.

I really wanted to capture a unique aspect of this magnificent landscape, which I spent years shooting from every different angle imaginable at all times of the day and night. Although I’d gotten some beautiful shots, none quite had that “one of one” impact for which I repeatedly strive.

Finally, I discovered the ideal location with the vantage and perspective for which I was searching. In proverbial pursuit of perfection, I waited for the day’s last rays to punctuate the distant city skyline and contrast the architectural marvels of this bridge while highlighting the beaches and waters below.

Culminating the building crescendo of suspense to the precise instant, my flurry of shots memorialized the preservation of my “Golden” intention.
